Earth’s 10 warmest years are 2016, 2019, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2014, 2010, 2013 and 2005 (tied), and 1998. Since the Industrial Revolution, Earth's atmosphere has warmed by about 1.8° F. The adverse effects of global warming are well documented. The direct relationship between mankind’s hydrocarbon emissions and global warming is unchallenged by virtually every creditable scientist. Although this relationship has been known for decades, many say not enough has been done at the national level to reduce carbon emissions. The 1997 Kyoto protocols and the 2015 Paris Climate Accord agreements proved incapable of significantly reducing carbon emissions. Scientists warn we are not doing enough to avoid the consequences of climate change, and some say our focus seems to be shifting from preventing climate change to adapting to it. Advocates say individuals can significantly reduce carbon emissions by increasing the use of insulation materials and energy-efficient lights and appliances, and decreasing the use of vehicles, heated water and climate control systems powered by carbon emitters. Environmentalists claim most of our industries have resisted reducing emissions, while industry representatives say that carbon reduction can only be accomplished with significant costs to consumers. In a recent executive order aimed at combating climate change, President Biden has set a goal of net-zero carbon emissions economy-wide by 2050.
