Winning Issue » CHILD TRAFFICKING

America, along with Mexico and the Philippines, was ranked as one of the world's worst places for human trafficking in 2018. It is estimated that between 18,000 and 20,000 victims are trafficked into the United States every year – 71% of whom enter the US legally. Since 2007, more than 49,000 cases of human trafficking have been reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. The Mexican state of Tlaxcala has been identified as the biggest source of sex slaves to the US. In 2015, five out of 10 of Homeland Security's "most wanted" sex traffickers were from Tenancingo, in Tlaxcala. It is estimated that one in 10 people from Tenancingo were involved in human trafficking.

Polling Options

  • I oppose reforming current child trafficking policy and wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of either Nancy Pelosi (CA).
  • I support reuniting children and their parents or legal guardians who were apprehended for illegal entry into the United States by: 1.) Developing procedures and programs to identify separated family members, allowing apprehended parents or legal guardians to have frequent no-cost contact with their separated children, and coordinate with foreign consulates to locate apprehended individuals. 2.) Ensuring immediate reunification of apprehended children with a parent or legal guardian, but may make exceptions for the child's safety. 3.) Using DNA testing to determine family relationships, but shall first use other methods, such as official documents; developing procedures for instances where the aliens refuse to consent to DNA testing; specifying that collected DNA information may not be used for any purpose other than family reunification, including criminal or immigration enforcement. 4.) Restoring the Family Case Management Program, an alternative to detention program that uses case managers to promote compliance with immigration law obligations, and establishing the Office for Locating and Reuniting Children with Parents. 5.) Allowing aliens to have access to counsel inside immigration detention facilities, and the DOJ to provide counsel for immigration proceedings. DOJ shall provide counsel if necessary for children and vulnerable individuals, and children's cases shall be heard individually. And wish to donate resources to the campaign committee of Rep. Zoe Lofgren (CA) and/or to an advocate group currently working with this issue.
