Factory farms

Industrialized factory Farms, sometimes referred to as concentrated or confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs), are farms on which large numbers of livestock are raised indoors in conditions designed to maximize production at minimal cost. Pigs, chickens and cows are often housed in close confinement where their movements are severely inhibited. Animals are kept in overcrowded cages, crates or pens without enough space to turn around or lie down comfortably. Egg-laying hens are kept in small cages, chickens and pigs are kept in packed sheds, and cows are kept on crowded, filthy feedlots. There are no federal laws protecting the welfare of animals on farms.
